Bride

On Friday November twentieth Jon and I went to Kansas City, Missouri for a weekend getaway. We spent the day going to the aquarium, shopping and site seeing. After a wonderful day around the city we spent a couple hours at a casino. Being the "frugal" lady that I am known for, I was ready to go after winning less than three dollars on the slot machine. We went back to our hotel room after Jon played some rounds on the black Jack table. I was totally unaware of what he had planned once we got to our room...

I was sitting on the couch waiting for Jon to come join me. He was emptying his coat pockets while he casually asked me how I thought the day went. I told him it was wonderful. I went on to explain how everything seemed to work out absolutely perfectly. Our room was upgraded to a King suite, we got a discount when visiting the aquarium and despite my cheapskate demeanor at the casino I still came out ahead with a hearty three dollars! Which I spent on cheesecake... He then asked what would could make my day even better. Not knowing that he was about make the day one of the best days of my life, I jokingly told him that I wished we would have won a million bucks at the casino so we could buy an aquarium and fill it with jellyfish.

I asked him how the day was for him and he said it was great for him as well. He walked over to me and gave me a kiss on my forehead and kneeled down right next me. He was looking at me so sweetly I couldn't help but smile. As he reached into his pocket he said "But the only thing that could make my day better is if you'd marry me." In his hand was a little blue jewelry box with a beautiful engagement ring in it! I don't remember if I said "OH MY GOD! YES!"  before I hugged and kissed him or if I said yes then wrapped my arms around him. Either way, I was completely elated!

Smiling bigger than I've ever seen him smile before he put the ring on my finger and held me tight. Before I could get any other words out he said that he spoke with my dad and he gladly gave his permission and that he was happy that Jon was the man to be asking. Naturally my heart melted thinking of my father telling him that he approves. Knowing that Jon asked for my hand in marriage from the only other man in the world that I love as dearly as I love Jon meant a lot to me.

That night I contacted all the family and friends that I could think of and shared the wonderful news. I was so happy to speak with my daughter Davina. To my surprise, she told me that she knew!!  Jon asked her permission the night before we left! She approved of him asking as well. Davina is my baby and tells me everything, so I was so shocked to know that Jon told her he was going to propose and she didn't even drop me the slightest hint. I am proud of her for keeping that secret because that was by far the best surprise of my life.

All of my family and friends were so happy for us. Jon's parents all new of course and mine before I was asked so naturally I had send out photos of my ring to EVERYONE!
